I do have to praise the author for such clever curse, though, and the execution of it from the main character’s point of view.

No trivia or quizzes yet. It’s definitely a horror story, but not in a classical sense. I just finished the huge hardcover edition and can confirm that it is BOTH volumes in one. It’s one of those stories you should go into completely blind and just let it sweep you up. I only recognized them because I’m already well aware of what was going on.
Another Another by Yukito Ayatsuji. It failed to give me any sense of mystery and, when the curse started to take effect, it wasn’t very shocking. I did notice there yukiyo a fair amount of repetition with regards to conversations and plot points.

Given the length of the book, I could find no reason for it to have taken that long to get to the point and move on to solving the mystery, which I assume happens in volume two.
InMisaki, a popular student of Yomiyama North Middle School’s classsuddenly died partway through the school year. But still, I enjoyed this story. As a transfer student, Kouichi had no idea what was actually going on for most of the novel, and characters around him would only make vague hints, or try and dissuade him from prying too deeply, hoping that in the end there wouldn’t be byy need to tell him anything bby the curse wasn’t active that year.
Although I recall Koichi being fairly bland in the anime, in the book he struck me as being arrogant, overly reserved, and occasionally somewhat selfish.
The book was written in the first yukkito, from Koichi’s perspective, and was sometimes so stilted that it just wasn’t believable as a year-old’s POV. The first is the macabre atmosphere. Koichi is the typical protag and Mei is the loner weird girl in class.
All clues are given before Sakakibara’s told anything, so it’s really easy to miss the important hints, even if they’re bolded. You do learn a lot about Sakakibara and Misaki especially Misakibut some of the others It is beautifully original and stunningly strange.
I do think that some of the information presented in the narrative could have been left out, as it is re-explained in Sakakibara’s POV. Are they all acting oddly because he’s new, or is it something else? Retrieved July 20,
